Chair, Future-Proofing Health Systems Committee, European Health Parliament, 7th edition

Norbert COUESPEL

Norbert Couespel is the Chair of the Future-Proofing Health Systems Committee of the 7th edition of the European Health Parliament (2021-2022).

The European Health Parliament (EHP) is a movement connecting and empowering the next generation of European health leaders to rethink EU health policies. Each year the EHP convenes a diverse group of 60 young professionals representing all healthcare sectors. Participants work together for six months to develop policy recommendations that address today’s most pressing European health issues, which are picked in cooperation with the European Commission. EHP participants are selected for their contribution to and potential to lead in European health policy and come from a range of educational and occupational backgrounds.

The Future-Proofing Health Systems Committee is one of the five Committees of EHP7. Recognising the critical gaps exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic in European health systems, the 12 members of the Committee strive to:

  • Strengthen European health systems towards ongoing health threats, evolving needs of citizens, patients and healthcare professionals, and unanticipated health crises
  • Uphold health as a collective social good and a right for all people and communities, whilst making the best of research and innovation, including in the rare disease field
  • Ensure collaborative and accountable health governance, allowing all to be informed and active builders of the future of health

As the Committee’s elected Chair, Norbert Couespel leads its work to deliver policy recommendations and represents its members externally.

Norbert Couespel also works since 2020 as Policy and Research Officer at the European Cancer Organisation, a federation of 40 healthcare professional organisations and 20 patient groups working in cancer at European and international level. He was previously trained as a biomedical researcher in immunology, virology and bioinformatics at the Ecole Normale Supérieure of Paris, as well as in several other French and international research institutions.
